how to read resistance color code/value

Some time frequently asked a question that how to read out resistance color and what is the value or power of a resistance.All resistance have different values and powers.if you want to learn how to read resistance colors then you are on right place.given information is all about on resistance code.

First of all there are two types of resistance

  1. Leaded resistors
  2. Surface mount resistors (SMD)

Leaded resistors:

This type of resistance used vary far in circuits as a basic component.it found in 3,4,5 & 6 band resistance.

How to read leaded resistance color..? Lets Solve this problem.

We do it with an Example its easy to understand it

resistance color example

Lets do example of Four band resistance is ..

Band/color 1 = brown = 1

band/color 2 = red = 2

band/color 3 = orange = 3 (3rd band means 3 zeros witch multiply above 2 bands)

band/color 4 = silver = 10% tolerance

and the answer is { 1 2 * 0 0 0 = 12000 ohm or 12 k}

   Another Example of Six band resistance is :

Band/color 1 = brown = 1

band/color 2 = red = 2

band/color 3 = blue = 6

band/color 4 = red = 2 (hear 4rd band means 2 zeros witch multiply above 3 bands)

band/color 5 = red = 2% Tolerance

band/color 6 = yellow = 4  ( Temperature Coefficient is 4 )

and the answer is { 1 2 6 *0 0 = 12600 ohm or 12.6k }

Below is the chart of resistance color code
